JoAnne Crowson is an abstract impressionistic artist who loves utilizing vivid colors to convey emotions and take the viewer on a mystical journey. Her pieces are inspired by the world around us, from the majesty of the mountains to the calmness of the ocean. Most of her work is created in acrylic, ink or resin and I love to combine the mediums in mixed media pieces.

Nelly Dastain: Starting a new painting is like entering an unknown universe. Then, after a few strokes, the colors and the shapes decide for themselves. They lead me. I only bend them to my preferred shades and make it look to satisfy my own personal tendencies. Abstract art is about creating a visual experience, sparking emotions and let the viewers’ imagination do the rest.
Jan Deswik works primarily from mental images, memories and impressions. “I aim for an ethereal, dreamlike quality to convey an emotional experience rather than a snapshot of the subject. While my subjects are based loosely on scenes and experiences from the natural world, this abstract, interpretive style sharply diverges from the photorealistic portrayals more typical of watercolor artists.
What is important to me is what the viewer sees in a painting, what I could think about it is not remotely as interesting to me as what you tell me you see.
What I look to provide a student of watercolor is the joy that comes in putting paint on paper and sharing the delight I feel in that process, whether it’s paper, canvas or moose antler.”

I am a painter working in a fluid, emotive form drawn from abstraction and observation of the visual world. My work is led by an expression of the fragility of life, reflecting sublime moments with nature entwined with societal dynamics and tensions. The possibility of freeing oneself from misconceptions that isolate and imprison is of great interest to me. My painting express the dichotomy of life, foregrounding the contrast of beauty and light against darkness.

I’m also very fond of the painters that I studied as a young man. Painters like Motherwell, Stella, Riley, Johns, and Rothko.
In some ways their type of painting is much more honest and the essence of painting. Rather than a fake attempt to suggest a three dimensional world on a two dimensional canvas.”
